Solution : Use 4.6 SP1 for capturing, it seems to be a kind of a bug in SP2.

Sequencing Attachmate KEA 4.23

Type of Sequencing : VFS

Issue : 1) KEA! shortcut throws the below following error when launched :

2) KEA! Installation document shortcut and KEA! help file shortcut throws an error which says "C:\PROGRA~1\KEA\setup.log not found".

3) KEA! help file shortcut opens blank.

Solution : 1) Perform VFS sequencing to solve the error.

2) Edit the parameters for both the shortcuts:

 Old Parameter : C:\PROGRA~1\KEA\setup.log
 Modified Parameter : C:\Program files\KEA\setup.log

3) Help file formats are not supported on a 64 bit Windows 7 machine henceforth we need to make sure the patch from Microsoft is already installed on the sequencing machine ( Prior to sequencing Attachmate KEA), the same should be taken care on the Client machine as well.

Sequencing IBM SPSS Amos 21

Prerequisites:
- .Net Framework 4.0

Issue : 1 ) "Amos Graphics" shortcut launches fine, but when we try to access File->Browse Path Diagrams we get the below following error:

2)  "Text Output" shortcut throws the below following window when a html file is opened.

Solution : The application source media when installed on Win7 64 bit OS has the similar problem as the above two modules are not supported on a 64 bit machine. The best solution is to Sequence the application on a WinXP machine and then publish on a Win 7 64 bit machine. All modules work fine with this solution :-).

Note : If the Prerequisites is not present on the client machine then you may end up in getting terminology.xml not found error.

Sequencing Sibelius 7

Type of Sequencing : MNT
Sequencer : 4.6 SP1
OS : Win7(x64)

Issue : The application throws an error during installation as it looks to access sftldr_wow64.dll.

Solution : Before beginning monitoring phase, open cmd as Admin and then run the below following command :

bcdedit.exe/set {current} nx AlwaysOff

The above command disables DEP on the sequencing machine.

Sequencing Snippely 1.1

Type of Sequencing : MNT

Prerequisites:
- Adobe AIR

Issue : 1) When the shortcut is launched i get the below following error:

2) The application launches but the Add group button when clicked doesn't behave as expected:

Solution : Don't launch the application during capturing and configuration phase. If the application is launched it creates some user specific folders and files under CSIDL_APPDATA\Adobe\AIR\ELS\com.snippely.XXXXX and CSIDL_APPDATA\com.snippely.XXXXX which will make the application not to launch for any other users.If the application is launched during capturing phase or configuration phase make sure you delete these two folders.
The application worked totally fine after these two folders were deleted.

Sequencing Adobe Lightroom 4.3

Type of Sequencing : MNT

OS : Win7(x 64)

Issue : Application launches with a catalog window every time when it is launched in user mode.

Actual source media when installed and tested does prompt for the above window but only once as it will be  looking to save configuration files gets under C:\Users\MyID\Pictures\Lightroom. but this behavior is not same for the sequenced app in user mode as the above window gets popped up every time the user launches the shortcut of the application.

Solution : Don't launch the application shortcut during configuration phase and uncheck security descriptors.

Note : If application is launched during configuration phase the user name used for sequencing will be captured and the same will be displayed on client machine regardless of the user logged in.

Sequencing Adobe Captivate 6

Type of Sequencing : MNT
Sequencer : 4.6 SP1
OS : Win7(x 64)

Issue : When Adobe Media Encoder CS6 shortcut is closed the application throws an error in user mode as shown below :

Reason :  When the application is closed from user account it looks to create 2 xml files under c:/users/myusername_adminaccountusedforinstalling/appdata/roaming/Adobe/adobe media encoder/6.0 on the local machine.

 Solution :  Uncheck security descriptors and add the folder structure inside the virtual bubble and mark as "override".

Sequencing PrintScreen 4.7

Type of Sequencing : MNT

OS : Win7(x 64)


Issue : 1) We had an issue when printing an image from the virtualized PrintScreen and the application was throwing an error as shown below :

2) The users wanted to start the PrintScreen process automatically when logged-in and not by launching the shortcut everytime they login as the hot keys of the keyboard work only when the process is running.

Solution : 1) Register the PrintScreen.dll in the bubble within an OSD as shown below:

Prerequisites:
- Adobe AIR

Issue : .sch file extension will not be captured during sequencing as the Operating System has already an in-built application to open such files. .sch file extension should always open from AgileAgenda application but when installed on client machine and launched it opens with Schedule + as shown below:

Solution : Open the packaged app in sequencer and add the file association as shown below:

Note : Proper sequencing procedures should be followed to make the application work fine or you end up in getting a lot of issues.

Sequencing Aspect RTAClient 7.2.0.8

Type of Sequencing : VFS
Sequencer : 4.6 SP1
OS : Win7(x64)

Issue : The application when launched in user mode throws the below following error as the application looks to write some registry keys under local machine HKLM\System\CurrentControlset. If the application is launched first in admin mode and then user mode the application works fine.

Solution : The below following are the steps you need to follow after the application is captured :

1) Add the below registries manually from the virtual registry tab in the package configuration wizard

Note : Technically speaking the application should have worked fine from the above 3 steps but on the client machine when i checked for RTA client virtual registries it was failing to update. The registries got updated successfully only after implementing step 4 as given below.

Issue : Post configuration settings are not visible as the application is looking for the local userprofile folder. The file is captured inside the Q drive user settings folder but still the application looks on the local drive.

Solution : Uncheck Security descriptors during sequencing.

Issue : The application installation fails and throws the below following error during the monitoring phase:

Solution : Run the application in XP SP3 mode by right-clicking on exe --> Properties --> Compatibility and check the box.

Sequencing Google Chrome 22

Issue : The application fails to launch.

Solution : Follow the steps as given below:

Prerequisites:
- 7-Zip or another software capable of generating self-extracting files

Install Google chrome application and open the install directory


Copy chrome.exe inside the install directory

Select all the files and directories, make a right click -> 7-Zip -> Add to archive

 Check SFX archive option and click ok

The application is now saved in exe format.

Start sequencer and select standard application

Select the exe as shown below

Click next and extract the files in Q drive

Add a shortcut to chrome.exe and add standard parameters according to client requirement

- disable-custom-JumpList - no-default-browser-check - in-process-plugins - no-sandbox
  

Sequencing EclipseIDE 3.1

Issue :  The application throws the below following error when eclipse.exe shortcut is launched

Solution :
Uncheck the override option to all the folders
Mark all the folders to Merge with local directory

Note : Merging the directory seems to be wierd technically speaking but this worked like a charm

Sequencing Cygwin1.7.5

Solution :

1) In the Package Configuration Wizard mark the home dir under Q:\8.3\cygwin\home as userdata and uncheck override option

Add a environment variable to add PATH=Q:\8.3\Cygwin\bin
uncheck security descriptors
Edit the OSD to add a prelaunch script to start startxwin.exe as below
Q:\8.3\Cygwin\bin\startxwin.exe -- -nolock

Note : If the pre-launch script pops up everytime then add this script in a wrapper exe created from wise so that the user will not get the cmd window when the shortcut is launched everytime

Sequencing Share Point Designer 2007

Type of Sequencing : VFS

Issue : The application goes for a heal everytime the shortcut is launched or it throws an error saying the application needs to be reinstalled

Solution : Try the method as given in the blog below

This will not work if the application is sequenced on Win7 as it throws the same error. So the best way of doing it is to sequence the app on XP and deploy on Win7 environment

Sequencing Paint.NET 3.X

Issue : There are three errors you may get while sequencing paint.net

Error 1 : The below screen shot error is thrown when the shortcut is launched during monitoring phase.

Error 2 : After stop monitoring it fails to capture the WinSxS components.

Error 3 : The below error is thrown in launch phase and the same when tested on client machine as well.

We tried to sequence on WinXP with all the redistributables and deployed on Win7 but with no success.

Solution : The below methods helped us to make the Paint.Net application to be sequenced successfully:

1) Edited the MSI to remove x86 manifest components
2) Prior to monitoring exclude CSIDL_Desktop, Windows\Installer and disable system restore.
3) Install the modified msi with  CHECKFORUPDATES=0 as a parameter
4) Dont launch the shortcut during monitoring phase
5) Stop monitor
6) Begin monitor
7) Launch the shortcut

Sequencing BRR Fix 3.0

Issue : The application should launch the exe located in the mapped Z: drive and we need to create another shortcut to launch the BRR folder from the Z Drive

Solution : Sequence the application and edit the FILENAME="Z:\BRR\BRR_Update.exe" in OSD
and for the second issue perform the following things as given below:
1) Make a copy of the already existing OSD
2) Edit the Copied OSD with new Package Name and version
3) Edit the entries inside the SPRJ with new OSD name
4) Edit the OSD to point to the folder location as below

2) Edit the OSD to create the NTECHO folder in C drive as shown below:

Solution : Since the application already has the HKLM\Software\NSAC inside the virtual bubble it was overriding the local registies. The virtual application should see the Region key  value under HKLM\Software\NSAC from the local registries. Open the package for upgrade Go To-> Package Configuration Wizard->Virtual Registry->  and change the particular key HKLM\Software\NSAC to Merge with local key.

Sequencing NBalance 6.0

Error : When tried sequencing VFS the application launch throws an error which says " The application failed to initiate please reinstall the application"

Solution :
1) Remove all items from Exclusion items
2) Do MNT sequencing

Sequencing VMWare View Client 4.5

Type of Sequencing : MNT
Sequencer : 4.6(x64)
OS : Win7

Error : When application is launched you get a error which says " VMWare View Client could not find the plugin path. Please re-install the application"

Solution : The sequencer fails to capture the registries going under HLM\Software\Syswow64\Vmware resulting in failure of the application launch. Export the registry entries and run it inside the OSD Script as shown below:

Error : The application makes an entry Under Users\yourusername \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo but this will not work when the entry is in the bubble.

Solution : Edit the OSD to copy the lnk file to the local machine as shown below :

Error : After launching the shortcut the task bar menu shows as " IBM Lotus Notes 4.6 launching" but the application automatically shutsdown without any application launch window.

Solution : This is because of the incorrect path in Notes.ini file under C:\windows.
Open the sequenced version for upgrade and edit the Notes.ini file under Q:\8.3\VFS\CSIDL_Windows
As we hav done an MNT we have to edit the Notes.ini file as mentioned below.

Error : When Adobe Gamma loader shortcut is launched the user will get a popup error as shown in the below screenshot

Solution : Edit the working directory tag and  keep it empty <WORKINGDIR/>
Note : The Adobe Gamma Loader shortcut when launched just runs a process in the background and automatically shutsdown.
The same is applicable for Microsoft Powerpoint Viewer 2007 as it throws the same error as mentioned above
